When Do You Need FRAS, heat-resistant, non-stick and Oil-Resistant Belts?
Standard wear-resistant belts cannot meet all industrial requirements. Learn the application scenarios of FRAS flame-retardant, heat-resistant, non-stick and oil-resistant conveyor belts for mining, chemical and power industries. Standard wear-resistant rubber conveyor belts work fine for dry, normal-temperature lump ore and aggregate. But many industrial sites face extra hazards: fire risk, high material temperature, sticky wet powder or oil pollution. In these cases, general-purpose belts will fail quickly.
We sort out four common functional belts and their typical application boundaries:
1. FRAS Flame-Retardant Anti-Static Belts FRAS belts are mandatory for underground coal mines and enclosed coal conveying galleries. They stop flame spread and prevent static spark which may trigger gas or coal dust explosion. Standards like MSHA 30 CFR Part 14, EN 14973 are widely accepted by global mining clients. Open-pit mines with fully exposed conveyors normally do not require FRAS.
2. Heat-Resistant Conveyor Belts Heat-resistant belts are used for hot clinker, sinter and hot coke. The heat-resistant rubber compound avoids rubber hardening, cracking and delamination. Important reminder: NN nylon carcass is forbidden for continuous hot service. EP polyester carcass is the standard selection for heat-resistant belts. The heat grade (T1 to T4) should match the actual material temperature.
3. Non-Stick Conveyor Belts Non-stick rubber cover solves carry-back problems. It is made for damp clay, wet mineral fines, wet fly ash and fertilizer. The special formula reduces material adhesion on the belt surface and cuts cleaning and maintenance work. It cannot stand direct contact with glowing hot materials. If you have hot sticky dust, custom heat-resistant plus non-stick compound is required.
4. Oil-Resistant Conveyor Belts Oil-resistant belts are designed for materials mixed with mineral oil, grease and hydrocarbons. Ordinary rubber will swell, soften and lose strength after oil soaking. Typical users include mechanical recycling, oil shale and some chemical workshops. It is unnecessary for normal dry mineral conveying.
Functional belts add extra cost, so you should only select them when the working condition matches. Over-specification wastes budget, while under-specification causes frequent belt breakdown. Share your material characteristics and site environment with us, and we will configure the right functional conveyor belt for your system.
